Tuesday’s Presidential Debate was a spirited battle where each of the candidates had as their primary focus attacking their opponent. It has generated a lot of post debate analytics and opinions over who benefited the most and if there was a winner.
If there is one thing that we Americans need to count on from our leadership is that when the President addresses us, we can trust and believe in what he or she is saying. One of the things that makes the Forward Party totally different from the Republicans, Democrats, and other third parties, is that we do not believe in having a platform that defines our position on different issues. Our primary criteria for endorsing and supporting any candidate is that they have a documented high level of integrity and are willing to sign a commitment to adhere to our Candidate Pledge. We are not going to all agree on all of the major issues, therefore we believe that picking a candidate that we can trust to be truthful and trustworthy is more important than their position on different issues. What did Tuesday's debate tell us about how trustworthy these two candidates are?
Both candidates ducked questions that they did not want to answer and said little of substance on any of the issues. But there was a significant difference between the candidates on how trustworthy they were in the things that they said. Below are links to four different nationally recognized organizations that each fact checked both candidates. All four found that Harris has several instances of misleading or partial truths, but Trump had many more instances they took issues with, a number of them that have been totally debunked or have no basis in fact, e.g. tens of millions of criminal immigrants are eating our pets.
Based on this performance, which one do you want telling us about the things that are critically important to all Americans during their term in office? Do we need to see the fact checkers analysis before we can believe what our president says? That debate proved that Kamila Harris has MUCH higher credibility than Donald Trump, and that should be a significant factor when you mark your ballot.
Both these candidates have flaws and positions that concern many of us. It is unfortunately a continuation of a trend that we face a choice of the lesser of two evils for many political offices. The Forward Party is committed to electoral reforms that will get more candidates on the ballot so we have more choices. And we are supporting Independents and moderates from both parties to get them on the ballot. If you want better choices and more choices - are you interested in helping make this happen?
