Policy Objectives
Families across Maryland are being squeezed by rising costs. Our platform is focused on putting money back in people’s pockets and making everyday life more affordable.
Deliver property tax relief for homeowners through a Maryland STAR rebate program, patterned after a similar program in New York state, that helps offset high local property taxes, especially in Prince George’s County.
Protect families from utility bill spikes by capping excessive utility rate increases, reducing non-essentials fees on the bills, and supporting energy efficiency projects for homeowners and renters, and renewable energy generation in the state. Hold other states accountable that are driving up energy costs for residents of Prince George’s County. .
Require data centers to pay their fair share by providing on-site energy and water capacity so local residents are not burdened with higher bills or strained infrastructure. Require them to use solar, wind, and biofuels to reduce energy costs and combat pollution.
Provide student loan relief through service by creating a state tax credit for residents who complete meaningful volunteer service in their communities.
Investigate the high costs of auto and homeowners’ insurance in Prince George’s County.
Investigate the opportunity to cap annual rental increases for senior citizens.
Expand child care funding subsidies for working and middle class families in Prince George’s County.
