District 31

House of Delegates

I'm running to serve my community - as a mom, business owner, and community leader, I am constantly seeking ways to serve and improve our community. I believe government can be a force for good in our lives, and I've experienced it firsthand over time. I sought the Forward Party endorsement because our values aligned - people over partisanship, problem-solving, and committed to upholding our democratic values and serving our communities.

Heidi Schmidt

Meet:

Heidi Schmidt

Born and raised in Vermont, Heidi was the first of her family to go to college. After graduating from Northeastern University in 2006, she moved to Washington, DC, to pursue a career in public service, where she met her husband. They moved to Maryland in 2010 and settled in Pasadena in 2016 when their son was starting school. Since moving to Pasadena, Heidi has volunteered with and led a number of community organizations, including the PTA, Cub Scouts, the Pasadena Business Association, the Anne Arundel Democratic Central Committee, and, most recently, the Anne Arundel County Commission for Women. She founded her company, Heidi Schmidt Creative, in 2020, where she advises small to medium-sized businesses on their digital marketing strategies and how to show up authentically online.

Policy Objectives

- Supporting Small Businesses - specifically supporting policies that allow businesses to start, grow, and stay in Maryland, and promoting policies that support women looking to open, start, or grow businesses in the state.

- Promoting Educational Equity, specifically around special education and ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive.

- Protecting our environmental resources and ensuring we're creating climate resilient communities, and diversifying energy sources to ensure our natural resources are available for future generations.

- Affordability, we have to look at all policies through the lens of how we are making Maryland more affordable for our working families - finding ways to bring affordable housing to our communities without burdening our infrastructure, increasing access to affordable childcare, and reducing the tax burden on our working families.

- Childcare access. Specifically interested in pursuing opportunities to implement public/private partnership or shared cost models being piloted in states like New Mexico and Vermont that scale fees, and create opportunities that build more child care supply, access to employment without burdening our tax base or businesses.

Education Background
