RCV Testimony at Rockville City Council

Urgent Call to Rockville residents:

This is Adam Wise, Secretary for Maryland Forward Party, and your fellow Rockville citizen. Do you want to help our city enact Ranked Choice Voting?! Rockville could be next… if we let the council know that Rockville residents want it.

Members of the State Legislature have already told us that they will not pass statewide RCV until the cities have passed it first and educated more of the population about how the new ballots work. 

That’s where you come in. The Rockville City Council decided last year that you were not ready yet, and voted against RCV. They need to hear your voice this year saying that you are ready! But we have very little time.

Here's what you need to do...

We did it in Greenbelt!

It started about 2 years ago at a Maryland Forward tent at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival. We introduced the Greenbelt City Council to RCV MD, and together methodically helped educate the residents about what to expect and how it works. And Greenbelt citizens overwhelmingly approved of RCV in November by a margin of 2 to 1! 

And we can do it in Rockville too!

RCV MD and Forward have been talking to your city council for a couple years now, but we need you to get it across the finish line. Can you help make this Rockville’s year?

Rockville City Council doesn’t want to hear the polished answers of politicians. They are asking for real, regular citizens, who actually live in the city.

You can be nervous, and you don’t have to have the perfect words. Rockville just needs you to be you, and speak up with the voice that you have. Are you willing to be a voice for change?

Good phrases we’ve collected that you could use in your testimony:

• “I want to know that more than 50% of Rockville voters approve of the winners of our elections. Only Ranked Choice Voting is reliable enough to give us those answers.”

• “I don’t care that there’s complex math involved. If I can tell you my first, second, and third choices on one ballot, that will save Rockville and residents like me time and money.”
