Low Turnout in Havre de Grace Local Elections

Only 11.2% of Havre de Grace’s voting population participated in its recent elections. Approximately 12,480 residents in the City are eligible to vote, and on May 6 of this year only 1,401 people participated.

Voter turnout last year on May 7, 2024, also saw low voter turnout with only 1,137 residents participating to vote for 3 uncontested council members. In this election only 423 votes were cast for the uncontested mayoral seat.

When voter turnout is low, we embolden elected officials to maintain the status quo and we forfeit our power to bring the change we want and need to see in our communities. It’s time for us to reclaim this right, use our voice and share our thoughts. We, as voters, have the power to decide the agenda for our future and only we can make this difference, through participation.
