“A recent survey conducted by the Institute of Politics at the University of Maryland Baltimore County has revealed more concerns of Maryland residents…

… identified the economy, jobs, and cost of living as the most significant issues…

… A significant 77% of respondents rated the cost of healthcare as a high priority, followed by the quality of K-12 public education at 75%, and reducing crime and improving public safety at 73%…

… In addition to state priorities, the poll explored attitudes toward Maryland's congressional district lines and the proposal for midcycle redistricting ahead of the 2026 elections.

Only 28% of Marylanders believe the current district lines are drawn fairly, while 41% consider them unfair.

Among those who view the lines as unfair, 33% believe they favor Democrats, and 8% think they favor Republicans.

The survey also revealed that 81% of Marylanders view gerrymandering as a major problem for American democracy.

If given the choice, 63% of respondents would prefer a nonpartisan, independent commission to draw district lines, rather than elected officials.”
