Maryland House Speaker & Governor Moore indicate “eager”-ness to gerrymander Maryland ahead of 2026 Elections

Gerrymandering is wrong. We, the voters, should be empowered to choose our own elected officials.

THEY SHOULD NOT BE CHOOSING US.

Regardless of who starts or “counter acts” these anti-democratic policies, both traditional political parties stand to gain when together they continue to rig the system in their favor.

Democrats and Republicans are loosing their grip on power, with Independent Voters on the rise. Since November of last year, over 32,000 registered Maryland Democrats have changed their affiliation to Unaffiliated. Nearly 8,000 alone, just from last month. These redistricting measures are directly counter to the freedom of choice that Independent Voters seek and will continue to limit our voice.

Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson agrees saying, that an amended map “should be the absolute last option on the table… If we are out here changing the rules every two years, it’s hard to give people a lot of faith in the future of democracy,”.

The majority of Americans believe that the 2-Party system already isn’t working. In reality most states, including Maryland, are a 1-Party System. Last year Larry Hogan ran for Senate, and although losing, he secured 42% of the vote. Why then are our congressional boundaries unfairly drawn to only have 1 Non-Democratic congressional district out of 8, equating to only 12.5% of our statewide representation. Now Governor Moore and State House Leadership, including House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones from Baltimore County and House Majority Leader David Moon from Montgomery County, are seriously considering to steal away the only non-Democratic district, back into their control. This would make Maryland an absolute 1-Party System even though as of last month, only 52% of registered Maryland voter are Democrats.

Something is wrong here.

Maryland voters do have a say in this and will soon have more choices beyond Red or Blue. In the meantime, share your voice. Email your elected officials and share our collective disgust. Gerrymandering is wrong and we deserve better.

Also remember that Delegate Jones, Delegate Moon and Governor Moore are all up for election next year… and we have a say in that too…
