May 2023 Board Meeting
We had a very successful May Board Meeting. If there is any questions please feel free to email us at [email protected].In the meeting we discussed:
- Board Introductions: Each member of the board introduced themselves.
- Updates from the last statewide meeting: Matt Beyers gave a rundown of all the work that has gone on behind the scenes. Maryland is a battleground state!

- Status of the Petition Drive: Matt Hines presented where we stand with the signature collection effort and announced the launch of the "half-virtual" petition drive

- Outreach and Events updates: Michael O'Loughlin provided a recap on past events, showed the new event calendar, and issued the call for volunteers with the new volunteer job board, and invited everyone to join our discord discussions.

- Communications Team update: Brandon Barrett went over updates from the communications team, our current opening for a communications chair, our current group outreach efforts and a update on the book club.
- Fundraising Updates: Shiv Gupta presented on our Fundraising goals, having hit the fundraising goal, we are now able to have a 70/30 split with national on all donations made to the state page.

Communications Volunteers Wanted!

All communications products should strive to meet one or more of our communications objectives:
- Recruit volunteers

Visual Content Specialist
Responsibilities:
- Manage our Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts
- Explore expansion to other channels used by our target publics
- Develop image-based content to be shared across multiple platforms
- Produce video content
- Cover events, gatherings, and meetings
- Educate target publics on our principles and priorities.
Blogger
Responsibilities:
- Publish weekly or biweekly to our website
- Coordinate with social media manager to share on Twitter and Facebook
- Maintain consistent voice and structure
- Generate content to educate target publics on our principles and priorities
- Strive to make content relevant to Marylanders
Newsletter Editor
Responsibilities:
- Publish a monthly e-newsletter to our website
- Coordinate with social media manager to share on Twitter and Facebook
- Maintain consistent voice and structure
- Cover Maryland FWD events and gatherings
- Produce editorial on FWD priority (e.g. RCV)
- Generate long-form content on Maryland Forwardists
- Boost newsworthy items from FWD HQ
Book Club Captain
Responsibilities:

County Leads
County Leads Wanted!
Lead Your County!
Be responsible for recruiting volunteers, holding tabling and canvassing events, talking to local politicians and identifying local elections of interest.
Sounds like a big job, but be assured that you will have as much support as you need from your state leadership! This is a grass-roots, bottom-up organization and without someone leading the charge in each county, the job doesn't get done.
Are you the type of person who wants to shape the bigger picture? Then this job is for you!

Outreach
Outreach Volunteers Wanted!
Reach out to Supporters
Outreach Captain (8 to 10 desired)
- Contact new signees of the petition and engage them in <30 min. Conversation via zoom or other means.
- Determine level of interest for volunteering and forward that info to correct area.
- Must be able to attempt to contact signee within 24 hours and try to schedule meeting within 7 days of signing.
- New signees will be rotated between outreach captains to minimize workload.

Looking to change the Systemic Incentives and get better representation
About Michael O'Loughlin
I've always been a tinkerer, wanting to know how things work and what makes them tick. On top of that I've always considered myself politically homeless, and ideas about new incentives in politics drew my interest many years ago. However, I could never find a viable path to get those changes done, let alone find like-minded people that share similar values to myself. I do believe that the Forward Party is different in that they are making the changes at the local level, as well as building a political home for the people that they find along the way. I am very focused on making sure the Maryland Forward Party has a strong foundation to build upon so that it may be able to make the changes that are so desperately needed.
